Caleb : Newborn

This afternoon spent with tiny Caleb (who was only happy in mom & dad's arms -  but who can blame him?) was such a sweet one. Let me just tell you, that little Caleb lucked out in the parent department. David and Jenna were quite obviously just thrilled that their little one had finally arrived, and not only did they remain joyous and calm throughout our entire session - they were also such gracious hosts to me. Whenever Caleb would get fussy, David would walk him up and down the hallway singing to him, and it was like magic. The gratitude and love that David and Jenna feel for little Caleb was nearly tangible, and I count myself lucky to have been able to witness for a bit.

David and Jenna, thank you a million times over for welcoming me so graciously into your home!

Zadie : Newborn

Some months ago, I spent a day traveling to and from Columbia, SC for the chance to photograph this sweet baby girl and her parents. Tiny Zadie could not have been more precious and the session is now one of my forever favorites. Imagine soft rain falling outside, two in-love parents, baby coos, and stillness. The whole experience was extremely peaceful, and I'm taken back to that every time I look at these images.

I am always so humbled to be welcomed into the homes and lives of my clients, especially those with brand new babies. Will and Meredith were portraits of warmth and kindness. You could see it in the way that they interacted with each other, the way they treasured their new daughter, and the way they opened their home to me. They were truly a joy to photograph. They were too smitten with Zadie and one another to be bothered by the camera, which allowed me to capture them in a really genuine and raw way. Due to that vulnerability and openness, these images are some of my very favorites… of all time.

Charleston Wedding Inspiration

I was so incredibly lucky to have been given the opportunity to work with Amy of The Lovely Find on this amazing styled shoot at Lowndes Grove in Charleston. Everything about this shoot was a dream come true for me! The location, the gorgeous BHLDN gown, the beautiful cake, the yummy light, and most importantly, the models, who all happened to be professional wedding photographers and planners. I have to say, I was a bit intimidated to be shooting other photographers, but Jill, Caroline, Dana and Blair were all so incredibly kind and genuine. I sincerely enjoyed the time spent with them, and they were all so happy and relaxed in front of the camera. It was WONDERFUL.

To say that I'm now in love with Charleston is the understatement of the century (I may have spent my whole trip back to Durham devising a plan to move there ASAP- ha!). Live oaks, waterfront venues, gorgeous sunlight- it is truly a magical place. You can't go wrong with a Charleston wedding. You just can't. I only hope that these photos give you the tiniest glimpse of that magic, especially as we're currently surrounded by snow!

Many, many thanks to Amy and all of the vendors involved in this shoot. I am so grateful!

The Yeomans: Married

Leah + Mitchell Yeomans

It might be impossible to fully express how much I loved this wedding at Raffaldini Vineyards.

Leah and Mitchell know how to celebrate, and that's what the entire day felt like: a celebration. Their sunset ceremony was incredibly sweet, with so many personal touches. On of my favorite of those was the way they began their ceremony. Mitchell led the processional, and instead of waiting for Leah at the alter, he was standing all the way on the other side of the bridal party. They walked toward each other, met in the middle, and headed to the arbor, beginning their marriage hand in hand. It was a tiny detail, but held so much significance and added so much personality to their day.  The whole crowd was surprised when their best friend/groomsmen stepped up to marry them. He had been ordained, and they hadn't told a soul who would be preforming the ceremony--needless to say, everybody was shocked (I have to admit that I felt special since I was in on the secret :).

Mitchell's dad ended the ceremony with a prayer, and everyone extended their hands to the newlyweds, it was one of my favorite things to photograph,  to this date.

And then, they truly danced the night away. Fun does not even begin to cover their reception! Leah came up to me at one point and said,"I can't believe this! Literally everyone I love is here!" and that was the attitude that they had for the whole night. They were simply overjoyed to be married and surrounded by everyone they loved.

SO perhaps you can understand why there are so many photos here. I had such a difficult time choosing which ones to show you, but I truly believe that they are all meaningful, so here you go. I hope you enjoy these.

Leah and Mitchell, I cannot thank you enough for letting me play a small role in your day. You guys are the best.

Mary Norris: Bridals

I can honestly say that bridal sessions are some of my very favorites. They boast all the beauty of a glowing bride, without all of the time constraints and stress of a wedding day.

I met Mary Norris and her mom in Chapel Hill one afternoon. As close as I live to Chapel Hill, I don't go there much, so I was really excited when Mary Norris said she would love her bridals taken where she spent her college years. I knew UNC's campus was pretty, but GEESH. It's REALLY pretty. Since we took these over Christmas break, campus was really quiet... almost serene. Just like Mary Norris. She was the epitome of bridal beauty. Calm and joyful and GORGEOUS. I am so grateful I was able to spend the afternoon capturing this exciting time in her life!

Mary Norris, many congratulations on your wedding. You are a STUNNING bride.
